I just got my own dedicated server, for hosting. That means I have an entire computer for hosting my sites and my client’s sites, sitting in some data center down in TX somewhere, that I’m responsible for.
This is kinda cool–it appeals to my inner geek. I can do what I want on it. I don’t have to suffer because other people I’m sharing a server with have been spammers, which can sometimes make our email bounce. Like that.
But it’s a lot to assimilate, too. I am a noob in the system administration area, and I’m nervous. I have a lot to learn.
The worst part of the experience: going around with support tyring to figure out what the hell I’m doing.
The best part of the experience: feeling cool, yes, but mostly that I got to name my own server.
So I just moved my clients and myself from a server named Oldsmobile to “easystreet.goodkarmahost.com” - how cool is that?
I just moved to easystreet!
