About dixiblog!

dixiblog! is the personal blog for Dixie Vogel. She’s a big-hearted, big-mouthed eccentric genius and new age hippie chick from the midwest, founder of Good Karma Host. You can find her Tarot and new age stuff at A Fool’s Journey.

She can also be found running her mouth off around the wild interwebz, including Twitter and Facebook.

She probably says far too much. She’s aware, but it is her nature. Whaddya gonna do? But at least for the lucky duckies running into her online, listening is strictly optional.

Dixie FAQs

How do you get your hair that color?

Very carefully. Har!

To get the extra-bright colors, you have to bleach first if you're anything other than a light blonde. Tinfoil over your hair during the bleaching helps maximize the lightness. I like Clariol Maximum Blonde--stuff with bluing included helps if you have darker hair. It's not as harsh as some of the stuff you can buy but powerful enough to blonde out even darker hair.

Before applying the bright colors, you need clean, unconditioned hair. If you've just bleached it, that's perfect. If not, you can just wash it with a bar of soap before applying the pizzaz. The hair needs to be stripped of oils first so it can absorb the color.

I've tried a mess of different hair colors, and found Special Effects to be the most intense and long-lasting color. I leave it in about an hour--it doesn't hurt your hair at all--and after applying, condition my hair, which helps seal in the color.

Random Tips:

  • Wear gloves. This stuff stains!
  • Rub some vitamin E oil around your face and ears to minimize skin staining.
  • Astringent, rubbing alcohol, or similarhelps get the color off your skin or the counter.
  • Using color protective shampoo will make your color last longer.
  • People either love it or hate it. Regardless, they often comment. Be prepared for it.

Did you really lose 100 pounds? How?

Yeah! I wouldn't say it if it weren't true. I went on Atkins, and the good folks at Low Carb Eating helped tremendously. I even owned that site for a few years after I'd lost my weight in hopes of helping others, so I have much fondness for the community there. I also wrote several articles on the process under the handle of "Goddess" that you can dig up over there, if you're so inclined.

Here's the obligatory picture proof from my Low Carb success story...
