White Elephants, they call it. The office white elephant gift exchange for my husband’s work produced this lamp. It has an attachement of a straw and big lemon wedge, to supposedly make it look like a tropical drink.

Which is cheesey, but without the extra junk, it’s a pretty light, really.

Whatever the situation, whoever the people involved, that’s not a bad philosophy, anyway. Try to look past the junk and cheesiness or whatnot to see if there’s a pretty light underneath.

Today’s thought: If everybody likes you, you’re doing something wrong.

Because it means you’re probably not authentically being yourself. If you are being your true self, you will “fit” with some people, and not with others. And that’s exactly the way it should be.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Of course, it’s the day to think about the things you appreciate, which is great. It’s a wonderful idea for a Holiday, don’t you think? Setting aside a special day to feel lucky. Spending time thinking about all the stuff that you’re glad you’ve got. Have a big meal and take it easy and spend time with some people you care about.

That’s pretty Goddamned cool, if you ask me.

A weird thing that I’ve found in my business–the less somebody is paying for something, the more they expect from it.

Now, this makes absolutely no fucking sense. I mean, what the Hell? But there it is, and I’ve found without exception, this to be the case. If they’re not paying for it, they are the most likely to complain about something or other.

And for some reason, the more somebody is paying for something, the more they seem to respect it (and/or your time and energy).

Alternate way of communicating this thought: I need to stop donating/discounting services and rasie my rates. And find different ways to give back that are less annoying. (more…)

it’s a funny thing. or, it is to me, anyway, and that’s what we’re talking ’bout here. me. but it’s a funny thing, to me, how my focus works.

i have this thing, when i get focused. it’s like a goddamned laser beam, and i can do things. a lot of things. get shit accomplished, you know. you do know, right? what the hell i’m talking about? big shit. hard work, big projects. i can pull off shit that nobody but people who have known me a long time would guess I could, and maybe not them.
