Vega woke us crying last night, unable to move his back legs. I laid next to him on the floor and comforted him until he quit crying. This morning, I took him to the vet. He was diagnosed with straddle thrombosis and the vet recommended putting him to sleep because of the extremely poor prognosis and painfulness of the condition. We did. He was 7 years old.
He was the sweetest kitty in the world, and I miss him dearly already. We we very lucky to have him in our lives.
I love you, Vega.

:( He was one of the most awesome cats I have ever had the joy of meeting. He will be missed.
Thanks, Amber. He is very much missed around here.
Hey probably seems weird having a stranger reply to this post 2 years later, but I came across this after Googling the “straddle thrombosis in cats”. We regretfully and tearfully euthanized our 12-year-old male cat, Misha, 2 days ago. Same symptoms as you and many others reported. We made the decision to euthanize him after the doctor described the poor prognosis, likelihood that another clot would strike even if initial treatment was successful, etc. I was really torn up about the decision, but after reading all of the testimonies from various people on the Internet I’m convinced we made the right decision, however difficult.
I’m very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. I know it was the right thing to do, it was out of love.
I still feel Vega’s energy around sometimes, and I know he understood. I’ll bet you Misha’s spirit is nearby, too.
